Saving Energy and Monitoring Energy Consumption in University Buildings

Organisation

NGO “School of Energy Efficiency”

Support area

  • Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions

Funding

92041.58 €

Project duration

Sep, 2025 – Nov, 2026

The educational sector in Ukraine has high energy demands and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Most higher education buildings were built before 2000 with low energy efficiency, causing overspending on energy. University staff have limited knowledge of automated system of energy monitoring (ASEM). The main goal of the project is to introduce ASEM to reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions. Expected results include 10% reduction of GHG emissions in 7 buildings (from 2137 to 1924 tons CO₂/year), 10% reduction in heat and electricity, training of 50 specialists and approval of 10 policy documents in 5 universities.

Capacity development

In addition to providing of funding, IKI Small Grants supports NGO “School of Energy Efficiency” in their organisational capacity through:

  • Comprehensive training programme for the entire project team on results-based project management with a focus on effective goal setting, strategic and operational planning, and practical time management techniques. The training is designed to strengthen organisational capacity as a whole, ensuring that all team members share a common understanding of results-oriented approaches and are equipped to apply them consistently in their daily work.
  • Targeted consulting sessions to support key personnel in the area of fundraising and provide tailored guidance on developing fundraising strategies, identifying and engaging potential donors, and strengthening proposal development, thereby enhancing the organisation’s overall resource mobilisation efforts.
