In Togo, the Autonomous District of Greater Lomé produces over 350,000 tons of waste annually, most of which is landfilled. This leads to significant greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane from the organic portion of the waste. The IKI Small Grants project aims to address this issue by promoting sustainable waste management practices. Ecosystème Naturel Propre (ENPRO) will establish a new composting plant to transform organic waste into valuable compost. This compost will be used as fertilizer for farmers and agricultural cooperatives, enhancing soil quality and reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers. Additionally, ENPRO will conduct biannual workshops to advocate for municipalities to manage their organic waste through composting.
