IKI Small Grants is funding a project by the nongovernmental organisation Tanzania Wote Equality Alliance (TAWEA) that aims to address significant forest degradation in the Forest Reserve Makere South and Game Reserve Moyowosi in Tanzania. The project empowers local communities, raises awareness on conservation, and fosters cooperation among various stakeholders. To reduce forest destruction, the organisation plans to engage the community through innovative conservation strategies. This includes training 1,700 indigenous peoples and local communities adjacent to the reserves and establishing 10 conservation business models such as agroforestry, beekeeping, and fishpond farming.

IKI Small Grants supports Tanzania Wote Equality Alliance (TAWEA) Empowerment in its organisational capacity development through advanced trainings on:

strengthening results-based project management
financial management of Internationally funded projects
stakeholder engagement
technical expertise in renewable energy
promoting safeguards and Gender in conservation initiatives

About the organisation

The non-governmental organisation TAWEA was founded in 2014 and works in Tanzania on empowering the community with environmental conservation and WASH initiatives. TAWEA focuses on marginalised groups. They empower women and youth through education on economic empowerment, advocate for gender equality, human rights, good governance and child protection.
