Revitalising hydro power for herb production in Java
A very large flood in late 2019 and early 2020 destroyed the micro-hydropower plant in Cinta Mekar, the main renewable energy source of the village and the area. By repairing the plant, this IKI Small Grants project ensures access to renewable energ. The income generated will later invested in social, health and economic development for the Cinta Mekar rural communities. In addition, the hydro power plant is located close to a vast palm oil plantation, which has severe negative environmental impacts on water resources and is prone to erosion and flooding. The repairing of the plant will contribute to a more friendly land-use management.
