Constructing bird sanctuaries to develop protected wetlands areas in Zakarpattia
This IKI Small Grants project in the lowland areas of the Transcarpathian region aims to strengthening societal impact, helping to promote public support for expanding protected areas and enhancing biodiversity conservation in the region. The implementing organisaton Ecosphere plans educational and public information campaign to raise awareness among local communities about climate change and the importance of biodiversity conservation. The campaign will combine scientific research with hands-on educational activities. In addition, the project is working on developing the region’s first dedicated birdwatching hide to promote eco-tourism and environmental education.

In addition to providing of funding, IKI Small Grants supports Ecosphere in their organisational capacity through:

- Financial Management of Internationally Funded Projects
- Gender knowledge
- QGIS – geospatial knowledge
- English language
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
The non-governmental organisation Ecosphere was founded in 1999. Over 26 years of activity, about 170 projects have been implemented, lasting from 1 month to 3 years.
Ecosphere activities: 1) Ecological and educational activities: children and youth programs, ecology camps, and eco publications. 2) Environmental research and monitoring: aquatic ecosystems, forest ecosystems and biodiversity. 3) Promoting sustainable development of local communities: sustainable waste management, energy efficiency, RES development, ecotourism development. 4) Environmental advocacy.
